[Course Registration Guidelines] Important Notes on General Education Course Enrollment

I. Regarding the Courses “Classical Education and Social Practice” & “Sustainable Development and Social Practice”

These courses are required courses, but they will not automatically appear on students’ schedules.
Although the courses are listed under the first semester of freshman year, students only need to complete them before graduation.

★★★ Fourth-year students who have not yet completed these courses must register online. ★★★

The “Classical Education and Social Practice” courses specially offered for fourth-year students are scheduled as follows:

  • Thursday, Periods 5–6

  • Thursday, Periods 7–8 (2 classes)

II. Regarding the “Historical Thinking and Multicultural Studies” Area and the “Social Philosophy” Area

※ For second-year students (admitted in Academic Year 2024), the “Historical Thinking and Multicultural Studies” area requires students to choose one of the following courses:

  • “Formation of the Modern World”

  • “Historical Reflection”

  • “Digital Technology and Applied History”

This is a required course, but it will not automatically appear in the system. Students must register through the course selection system.

The following departments take the course in the first semester:

  • Department of Mechanical Engineering

  • Department of Electronic Engineering

  • Department of Electrical Engineering

  • Department of Environmental Safety and Health Engineering

  • Industrial Design Special Program

  • Industrial Intelligence Program

  • Department of Industrial Design

  • Department of Visual Communication Design

All other departments take the course in the second semester.


※ Students making up or retaking the “Social Philosophy” Area courses (3 credits / 3 hours), including:

  • “Historical Reflection”

  • “Constitutional Government and Rule of Law”

  • “International Relations”

may not audit regular classes.

Since these courses were changed to the “Historical Thinking and Multicultural Studies” area (2 credits / 2 hours) for students admitted from Academic Year 2024 onward, students who need to make up or retake “Social Philosophy” courses should register for:

“Constitutional Government and Rule of Law” (Monday, Periods 9–11, evening make-up class)


III. Making Up or Retaking “English Listening and Speaking” Courses

Students who need to make up or retake the above courses should visit the General Education Center after the semester begins and complete a manual course-addition form.


IV. Making Up or Retaking “Calculus” and “Physics” Courses from Other Departments

  1. Please register through the course selection system during the add/drop period.

  2. Do not take Calculus courses offered by the Department of Industrial Management.


V. Regarding “Diligence Education” Courses

  1. During the first semester of Academic Year 2025, make-up classes for both semesters will be offered simultaneously:

    • Diligence Education (I)

    • Diligence Education (II)

  2. Students who need to make up or retake the courses must register for the exact course title that they failed or did not complete.

  3. The class schedule and location for retake courses will be announced separately on the General Education Center website.


VI. Changes in General Education Elective Course Categories

<Starting from Academic Year 2023, the following course categories have been changed>

Courses changed from Humanities to Social Sciences category:

  • “Gender Sociology in the Classics”

  • “Visual Culture and Modern Life”

  • “Traditional Life Rituals and Reflections on Life”

  • “Popular Music and Taiwanese Society”

  • “Yoga Philosophy”

Courses changed from Social Sciences to Humanities category:

  • “Currency and Ancient Chinese Society”

  • “Greek and Roman Mythology and Culture”

  • “Analysis of Historical Figures”

  • “Taiwan Historical Sites and Culture”

  • “Military History of China Through the Ages”

  • “Legends and History”

  • “Ancient Civilizations of the World”

  • “Taiwanese History and Culture”

※ Students who took the above courses before or during Academic Year 2022 may count them as either Social Sciences or Humanities courses, but only one category may be recognized.

If the course is counted as a Social Sciences course, it cannot also be counted as a Humanities course, and vice versa.

The final classification will be manually reviewed during graduation qualification checks, and students do not need to submit additional applications.

※ Students who took the courses during or after Academic Year 2023 will have the courses recognized according to the new category classification.

※ The category displayed in the APP reflects the category assigned during the student’s year of admission. Students should refer to the category shown on their official transcript.

The General Education Center and Language Center are located on the 4th floor of the Teaching Building. Please use the central staircase of the Teaching Building to reach the 4th floor.
