[The Way of the University] Academic Year 2025 – Volunteer Service – “4 Hours of Volunteer Service” Guidelines

Dear first-year students and students retaking or making up “The Way of the University” course,

To cultivate good living habits, strengthen physical fitness, and promote character education, students are expected to develop diligence, independence, and responsibility through practical participation. This also encourages students to care for their surroundings, maintain shared learning spaces, and uphold the university motto of “Diligence and Simplicity.”

Each student must complete 4 hours of volunteer service. Each service session must be at least 4 hours. Through volunteer service practice, students are expected to fulfill civic responsibilities, practice humanistic care, and implement character education.

The service hours will be counted starting from Monday, September 8, 2025. Services completed before this date will not be recognized.

Volunteer service learning should be based on social welfare or public affairs of the university. Services both on and off campus must not involve any form of payment and should be public-welfare-oriented. Services may be conducted either on or off campus and must comply with the service type guidelines provided by the General Education Center.

After the class advisor reviews and signs the consent form, please take a photo of the signed document and upload it to the “The Way of the University” course learning platform.

  1. Recognized service types include assisting police station operations, tutoring disadvantaged children at community churches near the university, participating in beach cleanup activities, and other public-welfare service actions. The service organization must stamp the service certificate provided by the General Education Center or have the responsible personnel sign it. If there are handwritten corrections on the service certificate, the corrected areas must also be stamped or signed by the service organization for confirmation. For principles regarding the selection of service organizations, please refer to the “2025 Fall Semester The Way of the University Course Assignment Instructions Presentation.”

  2. Service types that cannot be recognized include serving as a personal assistant for university teachers, or services at private companies and private institutions. However, if the service involves assisting an administrative unit on campus, such as a department office or administrative office, in carrying out public-welfare-related tasks, it may be recognized. The service organization field must be stamped by the department office or administrative unit.

In principle, students only need to upload the “The Way of the University Volunteer Service Certificate” form, as attached. If the service organization cannot stamp the university’s certificate form, students must additionally attach proof issued by the organization as supporting documentation and upload it together with the certificate form provided by the General Education Center to the “The Way of the University” course platform.

Please complete the upload before Week 16 of the first semester, Friday, December 26, 2025. The General Education Center will collect and review the submissions.
