Course Information and Guidelines for “The Way of the University” 2025

Dear first-year students and students retaking or making up “The Way of the University” course,

The General Education Center offers “The Way of the University” course for first-year students. Unlike regular courses, this course is designed to help students gain a clear understanding and plan for university learning and campus life at the beginning of their studies.

The course includes a variety of learning units, such as field practice, lectures or arts and cultural exhibitions, mindfulness courses for physical and mental relaxation, and volunteer service. Since Academic Year 2018, the concept of “self-directed learning” has also been incorporated into the course.

Please note that the course content will be arranged according to actual activities and instructors’ schedules. Therefore, it is not limited to a fixed classroom or class time. Information regarding course materials, field practice schedules for each class, assignment uploads, and other details will be announced gradually in the latest news section of the General Education Center website. Please pay close attention to updates.

The following is a brief introduction to the course content:

A. Arts and Culture Appreciation 2 Participate independently in one General Education-related lecture or arts and cultural exhibition activity on or off campus. (Approximately 1–2 hours per session) During the first semester of Academic Year 2025, the university will organize four General Education lectures / arts and cultural activities with diverse themes related to the course. Each session is expected to open approximately 140 spots, and students are welcome to register actively.
B. Environment and Action 8 B-1: Guided Session (2 hours) B-2: Field Practice (4 hours) B-3: Reflection on Action (2 hours)
C. Experiencing the Present 2 Mindfulness experiential course: theory, small-group experience, and reflection report. (Total: 2 hours)
D. Volunteer Service 4 Volunteer service practice. (One session, at least 4 hours)
E. Beyond the Horizon 2 Watch one online classic lecture and upload a screenshot. (1 session, 2 hours) Limited to the content provided by the General Education Center.
